Basic Overview

[edit | edit source]

In Tansord, all nouns are adjectives, and vice versa. Adjectives go before the noun, except for 4 specific adjectives: Ren (person), Am (people/nation), Ka (language), Iri (state/country/land of a people), as well as units of time (months, days, years, etc). Tansord uses the SVO word order. Tansord has one article, the definite article al- (written with a hyphen).

Most plurals are formed with the suffix -it (or -t, if the root already ends with a vowel). There are three exceptions:

  1. The plural of Ka is Kaa.
  2. For words with 3 syllables or more ending with -VCV (vowel-consonant-vowel) when it is not the subject of the sentence. (i.e. agura -> "agurat" as the subject, "agur" otherwise).
  3. For the vocative case, plurals are formed differently (more below).

Vocative Case

[edit | edit source]

The vocative case is used when directly addressing the noun. The suffix -oy is used for the singular when the root ends with a consonant (-oyt in plural), and -ye/-yet (for singular/plural respectively) if the root ends with a vowel.

A pattern of consonant mutation is applied (and shown in writing) depending on the last consonant in all roots with 3 syllables or more OR in roots with two syllables that end in a consonant.

Initial root consonant -> after mutation

  1. g -> k
  2. b -> p
  3. d -> t
  4. c -> s
  5. k -> q
  • Erika: Eriqaye
  • Haveg (friend): Havekoy
  • Tabibit (doctors): Tabipoyt

When talking about a product of a culture, it is required to place Ren (person), Am (people/nation), Ka (language), Iri (state/country/land of a people) before if applicable (note that Iri is not required for the official full names).

  • Iri Tajik: Tajikistan
  • Ren Tajik: Tajik person
  • Renit Tajikit: Tajik people
  • Am Tajik: Tajik people (collectively)
  • Ka Tajik: Tajik language
  • Tajik Jomhori: Republic of Tajikistan (official full name)
